A useful used medical equipment listing should tell you exactly what is being supplied, what is known about its condition and what still needs checking. Use this checklist when comparing equipment from any seller, then agree any essential requirements before paying.

1. Confirm the identity and included items

Check the manufacturer, exact model, part number and serial number where available. Compare the photographs with the written description. Ask whether the price includes the power supply, batteries, leads, probes, sensors, modules, chargers, software documentation and any carrying case shown. Do not assume that an accessory pictured in a demonstration is included.

2. Separate condition from testing

“Used”, “powers on” and “functionally tested” describe different things. Ask the seller to explain the checks performed, when they were carried out, any equipment used for testing and the limitations of the assessment. Request close photographs of damage, connectors and identification labels. Ask for known faults and missing parts in writing.

3. Check compatibility and ongoing costs

Confirm that accessories and replacement consumables are suitable for the exact model. For systems with software options, establish which functions are enabled on the individual unit. Include any professional inspection, servicing, calibration, replacement battery and consumable costs in your budget. Check the availability of technical support and manufacturer instructions.

4. Plan acceptance before clinical use

A resale listing is not a substitute for professional acceptance testing. Arrange inspection, any required calibration or servicing, and performance and electrical safety checks appropriate to the equipment. Cleaning and reprocessing must follow the manufacturer’s instructions and your organisation’s procedures. Your qualified team should determine whether the equipment is suitable for its intended use.

5. Confirm delivery and buying terms

Check the packed size, shipping method, handling time and whether specialist packing is needed. For overseas purchases, establish import requirements, duties and taxes before ordering. Read the seller’s delivery and returns information and ask about anything unclear. On our website, shipping options and charges are calculated after the delivery address is entered.

A message you can copy

“Please confirm the exact model and included accessories, testing performed, known faults, battery condition and any available service records. Please also confirm the delivery arrangements and total price to my address.”
